The Kain family eats a pizza dinner after one of Mike’s appointments recently. They have been through a lot in the last two years. Mike, who was born with kidney disease and had a kidney transplant from his dad after high school, got sick again in April 2016. He then spent more than a year on dialysis as he continued to work full time and complete his masters degree. In September 2017, he got a new kidney from his sister Dayna.

Rowan Kain, 13, carries his youngest sister Kadence, 2, after she woke up from a nap on Friday. Rowan has been helping out a lot, especially since his dad Mike, right, got sick. "Watching over six other kids is surprisingly exhausting," Rowan Kain said.

Mike Kain had a kidney transplant in September 2017 with a kidney donated by his sister, Dayna. He is thankful to be feeling better and to have more energy to spend time with his wife, Karen, and seven children.
